Ghana Electrical Contractors Association has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to institute a periodic training for electrical construction industry players.

The training is projected to achieve an improved system reliability, leading to reduction in system losses and overall improvement in revenue generation of ECG.

The training forms part of ECG’s drive for safety adherence on all its operational installations as well as providing technical knowledge for players in the nation’s energy sector.

President of Ghana Electrical Contractors Association Awal Sakib Muhammed, addressing the media, labeled the training as a step in the right direction to enhance professionalism among contractors who mainly work as third-party contractors on behalf of ECG.

He has indicated that the training is geared towards bringing contractors up-to-date with ECG’s practices and adherence to operational and safety protocols.

”It has become necessary for the association to take measures to ensure that power distribution infrastructure is designed to standards and presents no danger to contractors.

“Electrical contractors engaged by ECG need to stay up-to-date with the cutting-edge advancements in the field, while ensuring they are adhering to regulations for safe installations,” he reiterated.

He urged practitioners and electrical contractors to participate in the ECG technical training programme as it is going to be a criteria for acquiring or renewing licenses.

Director of ECG Training Centre in Tema Ing. Godfred Mensah, on the other hand, indicated that safety on the field of work remains paramount hence the need to provide competent and practical knowledge for all practitioners.

He thus entreated members of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association to embrace the initiative by deeming the training mandatory to enable them to curtail incidents of possible accidents.
