The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) has awarded six companies at the second end-of-year gala dinner. The event was held on 18th November in Accra on the theme: “Forging stronger ties, celebrating decades of excellence in UK-Ghana trade relations.”
The awards aimed to acknowledge excellence in business among companies operating in Ghana. The event brought together government officials, key stakeholders, and representatives from member companies.
The winners of the respective awards are:
- Tullow Ghana Ltd received the Outstanding UK Business in Ghana award and the Economic Impact Award.
- Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC received the Tax Compliance and Social Impact Award.
- Standard Chartered Bank received the Decades of UK Ghana Business Partnership Award
- GCB Bank received the Dynamic Member Award.
The chamber also awarded its founding members, namely Absa Bank Ghana Limited, G4S Security Services Ghana Limited, Hogan Lovells and Vivo Energy Ghana.
Chairman of UKGCC executive council
The chairman of UKGCC executive council Anthony Pile said the award is the culmination of years of hard work and the remarkable determination of the UKGCC team, led by the tireless and outstanding chief executive officer Adjoba Kyiamah.
“It has not been entirely smooth sailing for the UKGCC. We have not only weathered the storms of a global pandemic and a national financial crisis but have thrived and forged ahead, impacting the business landscape in Ghana and beyond,” Pile said.
Pile said the chamber is committed to providing exceptional support for member businesses to foster growth as they work to promote trade between the two countries.
“As chairman of the UKGCC, I can assure you that we will not rest on our oars. We will be unflagging in our pursuit to provide exceptional support for our member businesses, fostering unfettered growth as we work to promote trade between Ghana and the UK. I can also assure you that the UK-Ghana business community has an outstanding private sector voice in the form of the UKGCC with its remarkable trajectory of growth and a relentless commitment to its members’ prosperity and development,” he added.
He said over the past three years, the UKGCC has consistently expanded its membership base, a testament to its growing influence as a business support leader.
Minister of Trade and Industry
The Minister of Trade and Industry, KT Hammond, on his part, said the ministry will submit to Parliament the Business Regulatory Reforms Commission bill for consideration and approval by 2024.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to demystify the business regulatory regime in the country to ensure that businesses are conducted in relative aids.
On her part, Kyiamah said the event was a celebration of the resilience and tenacity of the UKGCC and member businesses. She also expressed satisfaction about the entries made towards this year’s awards.
