The importance of STEM education

In his address, the Director of Schools and Instructions Division of the Ghana Education Service, Prince Charles Agyeman Duah, highlighted the importance of STEM education adding that it is the best way to tackle poverty in the country.

He explained that the world is in an era which is controlled by science and technology that has a great impact on the world at large.

According to him, there is the need for students to be equipped with such skills to help them improve not only with the theory but also the practical aspect as well.

“In our National Science and Math quiz for instance, we can all attest to the fact that the students who represent the various schools are well-equipped with the theoretical aspect but when you go to the global platform where they are supposed to be innovative and creative in order to prove to the world that they can take independent decisions to benefit us as a nation, they become last and that is the reason why I do stand with the issue of STEM education.” Said Prince Charles Agyeman Duah.

He also announced that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service has also taken notice of the same vision, and so far about seven STEM Senior High Schools are now being put up in the country and three more will be added.

The school’s cadet thrilled the invited guests with an exciting display while the schools cultural troupe performed various indigenous cultural dances from various regions.

The overall best student amongst the 63 graduating students Ms. Fredericka Ashong Okpoti Dede, who picked up more prizes was adjudged overall best student.
